What is PRP?

PRP at ProloHealing Medspa in Denville, NJ

Introduction

PRP stands for platelet-rich plasma. This has been a very popular aesthetic treatment for skin health for many years.

It notoriously became most popular when Kim Kardashian mentioned it on her television show, “Keeping up with the Kardashians”. She referred to it as the Vampire Facial. Did you know the phrase “Vampire Facial” has since been legally protected, so no aesthetic practitioner or medical spa are legally allowed to use that phrase without legal permission! It’s fine for us to refer to it as PRP treatments though. Frankly, I much prefer calling it PRP Treatments, or Cellular Therapy, over Vampire Facial anyway.

PRP treatments for the face involve extracting a small amount of your blood, spinning your blood in a device called a centrifuge, and this separates your precious protein-rich plasma from the rest of your blood. The resulting plasma is then injected into the skin or applied topically.

PRP is thought to stimulate collagen production, leading to improved skin texture, diminished fine lines and wrinkles, and it also works well on acne scars. It’s also used to plump sagging skin, treat hyperpigmentation (age spots, or patches of the skin that have become darker). It is also known to enhance hair health and volume.

I know this to be true because I have been using PRP to enhance skin health, and to help hair growth, and fullness for both men and women, for years.

You can say that PRP a natural filler, with minimal downtime, and no side effects because it’s all you. The only warning I might want to share with you is that facial anatomy is weaved with a complexity of blood vessels, nerves, and muscles that you want to trust to only trained medical professionals. Poking a needle into things like facial nerves can cause long-lasting damage, so if you don’t choose ProloHealing Medspa, in Denville New Jersey, to administer your treatments, do your research to make sure who you choose has ample medical training and actual experience injecting faces.

We also have another side of our practice, NeuroWellnessMD, for any treatments that can be covered by insurance. Give us a call today!
