We know genes play a role in hair loss and some feel that they can’t do anything about it. Guys, do you look at your thinning hair and wonder how much longer its going to last?
Most guys have male pattern baldness. This is when you have a receding hair line. It may take years before you lose all your hair or most of it. However, some can lose it fast. Hair loss is affected by how sensitive your hair are to sex hormones. If you are losing patches of your hair than it may be an autoimmune alopecia which requires further evaluation.
Most men decide that they will do one of two things with hair loss: 1. Go with the dreaded comb over and desperately dab minoxidil on their scalps or 2. Just go bald like Mr. Clean since it has been trendy lately. Most guys tend to accept this because….well….we are guys and we tend to take the path of least resistance. The only other FDA approved treatment is finasteride which also can be hit and miss just like minoxidil. Hair transplants can be painful and may not yield the results you want.
There are now other options that can be adjunctive to the minoxidil or finasteride. Platelet Rich Plasma works synergistically with these medications. Treatments are initially spaced out monthly for the first 3 months before they are spread out at different intervals. We have found this treatment to be effective for hair loss. Like any other treatment for this condition, it will also require some booster shots after the initial series of treatment. PRP can also be combined with low level laser light therapy as well as micro-needling for a more robust response.
